The Best of 1989-1992: Chic [High Street Records]This one's one of my favorites, despite the imitators to be seen on a Penthouse mansion in the CD's cover art. The elegant cutting, the carefully chosen covers, the selection of a good few songs to be sampled in the middle eight. When the funk was at its most fabulous, what with the Babs Gonzales-produced African Queen and the backing band on Smooth Operator dubbed the Chicadelic Royal Family. These are the cuts that best showed that funky '70s Jamaica could be more than a one-hit wonder, and still have a business model. A-
Duke Sterling: Greatest Hits [Blue Note, 2002]To my ears, the “best” series of Greatest Hits compilations have been Desmond Dekker’s “Back to the Island” (EMI, 1969) and Anthony Joseph’s “Searching for a Star” (Sea Records, 1994). The latter is the superior one, and this Duke Sterling comp serves as a worthy successor. It was a good idea to bring his biggest hits to a new audience, but it’s also important to understand that the quality of Sterling’s solo career is uneven--he can be bumbling and ineffectual, but he was the first Brit soul singer to swing as hard as any American, and he has a few impressive moments. So this one is a bit uneven, but the best songs are here--Sweet Thing, If You Believe, I Wish You Well, Stop Your Crying (all four from the first Sterling album) and three more from the Feel Like Makin’ Love album. And let’s not forget the underrated Fabulous Feeling, which by itself would be worth the money. B+
If another hacker does this, then they will be able to put any game on the ps3 in a matter of minutes! and that means that Sony will be out of the console market for good. We have seen what happens when sony doesn't support games anymore. Nintendo is turning a profit, now it is time for Sony to do the same, or else they are dead.
I don't see the appeal of owning a Sony PS3, and I don't see the value of the PS3 as an entertainment device. Sony has become one of the most untrustworthy companies in the gaming industry in my eyes. 827ec27edc
