The Art of Color and Light is a great introduction to character and environment design. This course is appropriate for artists interested in exploring color and lighting as they relate to the narrative of a scene. Students will also gain knowledge and understanding of the theory behind color and light. The goal of this course is not only to develop a command of color theory, but to use color to convey narrative and mood. The goal is to create a sense of space and place in environments. Students will learn the art and science of color, lighting, perception, and shape as it relates to creating realistic scenes. This includes the concepts of elevation, proportion, scale, and color as it relates to space and place. Students will learn both the visual and practical aspects of color and light.
This course is designed to be a collaborative effort amongst the students and the instructor. The major goal of this course is to create a sense of place and space in environments, and to teach the art and science of color, lighting, perception, and shape. Students will learn how to create and create the mood of a scene, and how to create the visual elements that convey a character’s emotional state.
