What a great game! It's visually stunning, full of huge world, varied terrain, and a quirky, simple yet compelling story along the lines of adventure games. I played it on a 6 year old Compaq PC with a GeForce 2 GTS and I reckon that when a game that looks that good is developed on such old technologies, it's a shame that it didn't get more attention. I guess the graphics were not up to modern standards though, especially the interface.
I was extremely disappointed when this game came out. It's designs, especially the second phase, are absolutely stunning. But the problem lies in it's simplistic nature. I know in principle, there are simple ways to exterminate hordes of monsters, but I'm a gamer, not an efficiency student. Furthermore, the gameplay is incredibly shallow. It's absolutely pulled out of a tattered old LP. There are no, I repeat, no, available quests, and the magic system has four sliders that determine what spells you learn. By comparing it to the new Final Fantasy XI, it shows the truly depressing state of JRPGs nowadays.
Such a shame! I remember first hearing about it when GGPLAYER was still around and the screenshots were just golden! However, that's sadly apparent from the game. The level designs and art style are just superb! I'm personally surprised that the development team has held onto it for so long, but I guess the graphics were a bit too ahead of their time.
In their previous Animal Crossing game (known colloquially as Animal Paradise in the west), Lurec Ritsuka and his crew, (with the exception of the quest to find a missing person, known as "Hideyuki Shou") were perfectly happy being a small and seemingly insignificant town. d2c66b5586
