Near the end of the season, Ava makes a second attempt to reconnect with Bernard, but ultimately decides to shoot him and then herself. As a result, Ava is uploaded, and with the help of a friend of hers, learns to become a sentient android herself, who has been programmed with a more benevolent personality, which enables her to become a host herself. The series' seventh and final season finds Ava's new quest as she travels around the world, encountering many different Hosts, who have been left alone by the humans and are now reverting to their old predatory ways. Bernard, who is on a quest to find another human so he can kill himself, eventually meets a human named William, who decides to join forces with Bernard to prevent the extinction of humanity. The duo eventually reunites with Ava, but are captured and brought before Charlotte, who reveals that she ultimately cares for humanity and has been using humans as batteries to power the Sublime. Charlotte is later destroyed, and the show ends with Ava and William deciding to bring back the humans, who have been sent to various locations around the world in an effort to restore their civilization.
