Developers can get started on the F1 instance by creating an AWS account and downloading the AWS Hardware Development Kit (HDK). The HDK includes documentation on F1, internal FPGA interfaces, and compiler scripts for generating AFI. Developers can start writing their FPGA code to the documented interfaces included in the HDK to create their acceleration function. Developers can launch AWS instances with the FPGA Developer AMI. This AMI includes the development tools needed to compile and simulate the FPGA code. The Developer AMI is best run on the latest C5, M5, or R4 instances. Developers should have experience in the programming languages used for creating FPGA code (i.e. Verilog or VHDL) and an understanding of the operation they wish to accelerate.
In order to enable this feature, you must launch an HVM AMI with the appropriate drivers. The instances listed as current generation use ENA for enhanced networking. Amazon Linux AMI includes both of these drivers by default. For AMIs that do not contain these drivers, you will need to download and install the appropriate drivers based on the instance types you plan to use. You can use Linux or Windows instructions to enable Enhanced Networking in AMIs that do not include the SR-IOV driver by default. Enhanced Networking is only supported in Amazon VPC.
You will be charged standard Amazon S3 storage fees for storing your exported VM image file. You will also be charged standard S3 data transfer charges when you download the exported VM file to your on-premise virtualization environment. Finally, you will be charged standard EBS charges for storing a temporary snapshot of your EC2 instance. To minimize storage charges, delete the VM image file in S3 after downloading it to your virtualization environment.
You can download a template for the VM you just created by clicking on Download a template for automation. The template contains all the settings and configurations for the VM, and you can use it to deploy similar VMs or automate your CI/CD process.

In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, modular packages cannot be installed without modular metadata. Previously, you could use the yum command to download packages, and then use the createrepo_c command to redistribute those packages.
This enhancement introduces the modulesync command to ensure the presence of modular metadata, which ensures package installability. This command downloads rpm packages from modules and creates a repository with modular metadata in a working directory.
OpenSCAP can now consume local files instead of remote SCAP source data stream components. Previously, you could not perform a complete evaluation of SCAP source data streams containing remote components on systems that have no internet access. On these systems, OpenSCAP could not evaluate some of the rules in these data streams because the remote components needed to be downloaded from the internet. With this update, you can download and copy the remote SCAP source data stream components to the target system before performing the OpenSCAP scan and provide them to OpenSCAP by using the --local-files option with the oscap command.

The geoipupdate package requires a third-party subscription and it also downloads proprietary content. Therefore, the geoipupdate package has been deprecated, and will be removed in the next major RHEL version.
The two 2016 servers failed repeatedly when attempting to even check for updates. So I rebooted both servers, was finally able to check for updates from Microsoft. Then it takes about 30 minutes to download and install.
This month with KB4480961 we have seen a couple of failures on a couple of our servers. To me it seems like an issue with the trustedinstaller perhaps timing out while shutting down, we have to manually download the patch and it finally went thru on some of these. Are there any hotfixes for these issues on Windows 2016?
I've finally given up and just disabled Windows Update and the Module installer service. I've had 6 servers max out CPU and RAM trying to download/install updates. On is 'just' a DC with nothing else going on.
2019 is no better in my experience. I am trying to update a fresh physical member server with June MSR, Adobe Flash Player and June CU (KB4503327). so far it has been "downloading" for over 2hrs 30 mins and delaying my DCPROMO process. I hear Hollio's frustrations and had a chuckle to myself. Microsoft really need to focus their customers or one day they will regret it. I have trained my whole career in their products and it now makes me feel I have to re-train, unacceptable.
The warning that it will take up more space is no lie. A typical "cumulative update" of 300 MB is about 1 GB when using Express Updates. They, obviously, take longer to download so you'll need to plan accordingly for space and timing with any Group Policy being used to push updates. 041b061a72
