If you are looking for a Bluetooth communication and entertainment system for your motorcycle helmet, you might want to consider the scala rider q3. This device allows you to enjoy intercom conversations with up to four other riders, listen to music, radio, GPS instructions, and phone calls, and customize your settings via the Cardo Community platform. In this article, we will review the main features, compatibility, installation, performance, and troubleshooting of the scala rider q3.

Compatibility

Installation

The scala rider q3 comes with an audio kit that includes a noise-canceling microphone, interchangeable hybrid microphone (corded mic also provided), speakers, speaker booster pads, Velcro pads, glue plates, hybrid mic clip, and an Allen wrench. You can attach the audio kit to your helmet using either the standard back plate or the glue plate method. The standard back plate method involves loosening both screws on the back plate, pushing it between the helmet's outer shell and inner padding, and tightening the screws. The glue plate method involves removing the back plate by taking out both screws, using an alcohol pad to clean the exact spot on the helmet where you want to glue the audio kit, peeling off the protective backing sheet from the glue plate, pressing it firmly on the helmet for 15 seconds, allowing it to dry for 24 hours, and fastening both screws tightly. Once you have attached the audio kit to your helmet, you need to position the microphone and speakers according to your preference. For open face or modular helmets, you can use the adjustable boom mic and attach it to a Velcro pad inside the helmet lining. For full face helmets, you can use the corded mic and attach it to a Velcro pad inside the front of the helmet. You can also change the microphone type by removing and reattaching the audio kit and back plate. For best clarity, place speakers directly opposite and close to your ears. You can use speaker booster pads if your helmet has deep recesses. After positioning the microphone and speakers, you can slide and click the scala rider q3 control unit onto the audio kit.

Performance

The scala rider q3 offers several functions that enhance your riding experience. Here are some of them:

Intercom

The intercom function allows you to communicate with up to four other riders who have a compatible scala rider device. You can toggle between different intercom channels by tapping or double tapping the Intercom Button. You can also use voice commands or VOX technology to activate or deactivate intercom calls by speaking any word loudly. The intercom quality is clear and crisp thanks to PLC (Packet Loss Concealment) software that compensates for audio losses in challenging environments. The intercom range is up to 1 Software Update

One of the advantages of the scala rider q3 is that you can update its software online via your Mac or PC. This way, you can enjoy the latest features and enhancements that Cardo Systems offers for your device. To update your software, you need to download and install the Cardo Update tool from the Cardo website. Then, connect your scala rider q3 to your computer using the USB cable and follow the instructions on the screen. Troubleshooting

Although the scala rider q3 is designed to provide you with a reliable and enjoyable performance, you may encounter some issues or difficulties while using it. Here are some common problems and their possible solutions:

Problem: The scala rider q3 does not turn on.

Solution: Check if the battery is fully charged. If not, connect the device to a power source using the wall charger or USB cable and wait until the LED turns green. If the battery is charged but the device still does not turn on, try resetting it by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole on the back of the device for a few seconds.

Problem: The scala rider q3 does not pair with other devices.

Solution: Make sure that both devices are turned on and within range. Make sure that both devices are in Bluetooth pairing mode. For the scala rider q3, press and hold the Volume Up or Volume Down button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue alternately. For other devices, refer to their manuals for pairing instructions. Make sure that both devices are compatible with each other. The scala rider q3 can pair with up to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, such as a mobile phone, a GPS device, or an MP3 player. It can also pair with up to four other scala rider q3 units or compatible scala rider models for intercom communication. If you have already paired more than two Bluetooth devices or more than four intercom devices with your scala rider q3, you may need to delete some of them from your device's memory. To do this, press and hold both Volume buttons for 6 seconds until you hear "Delete all pairings" and confirm by tapping any button.

Problem: The sound quality of the scala rider q3 is poor.

Solution: Check if the volume level is appropriate for your environment. You can adjust the volume by pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down button. You can also enable or disable AGC (Automatic Gain Control) technology, which automatically adjusts the volume according to ambient noise and driving speed. To do this, press and hold both Volume buttons for 2 seconds until you hear "AGC on" or "AGC off". You can also customize the AGC sensitivity levels via the Cardo Community platform. Check if the microphone and speakers are positioned correctly inside your helmet. For best clarity, place speakers directly opposite and close to your ears. You can use speaker booster pads if your helmet has deep recesses. For open face or modular helmets, use the adjustable boom mic and attach it to a Velcro pad inside the helmet lining. For full face helmets, use the corded mic and attach it to a Velcro pad inside the front of the helmet. You can also change the microphone type by removing and reattaching the audio kit and back plate. Check if there is any interference or obstruction between your device and other paired devices. Avoid placing any metal objects between them or near them. If possible, move closer to them or change your position relative to them.
