The Windows installer can be described to install the R library(including header files and libraries) into the programfiles directory. It makes a DLL to add functionality to R gui, butmakes no new dll/binary or binary/text files.
The Windows installer copies files to the Microsoft Windowsappdata directory/R/R-3.6.0/lib which are used by other packages too(e.g. jags). See the R Installation and Administration guide for details.R CMD INSTALL --help gives R locations for dll files and header files. There is a potential issue with the installation: the directory /R/R-3.6.0/libwas created by the installer, but is not in the path used by other packages. As such it should be checked by the package developers if it iscorrectly installed. Whether this is noticed by the package is dependend onthe developers.
The distribution of R which is obtained from CRAN includes installationscripts for Linux, Windows and OS/X. These scripts assume that thedirectory /R/R-3.4.0/lib is in the PATH environment variable and removelibraries such as lib.pc by Rpm-build. Here R will attempt toinstall packages/DLLs at locations described in package.c as well as Rlibrary (e.g./R/R-3.4.0/lib/RcppArmadillo). A note in the helpfile is that the dependencies for packages may need to be checkedespecially for newer releases (e.g. on Linux/OS-X, one will need toadd Rcpp) and reverse dependencies (e.g. on Linux/Windows, one willneed to remove the pacman package for Apt-get). Additionally, the scripts used by the installer may not be able to set up a propert>PATH environment variable, possibly because your os cannot accomodate it, or youhave a custom path variable with some spaces in it. If this is the case, consider doing the installation again with the standard R scriptinstall.R. d2c66b5586
